GUIDE TO CHOOSING YOUR TURNTABLE

Quick Guide

Safety always overrides everything - familiarise yourself with Health and Safety regulations (contact your local office for details) and use qualified persons.

We are No 1 in the world – see our credentials, so here is a brief guide to display movement.

It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it – a trained, qualified person beats 4 Aces! Given this, here is our take on the most attention grabbing movements in order of effectiveness

  1. BUNGEE JUMPERS (a special form of animated figure)

  2. A SET OF ANIMATED FIGURES

  3. UP & DOWN MOTORS (most every window should have these installed high up, usually at the back of the window)

  4. SWINGERS™ (The lowest cost movement in bulk. – any movement made by any creature can be emulated on a SWINGER™

  5. ANY OTHER CHANGING MOTION, OSCILLATING, RECIPROCATING ETC.

  6. TURNTABLES

Vital Knowledge:

Quality of construction and what goes inside are important. If you don't understand "datum load weight", choose a model with a datum load weight rating at least four times the maximum weight the turntable will carry. This avoids many problems. Health and Safety regulations and professional practise require safety margins.

Low cost battery and solar units are best regarded as disposable - one shot throwaway.

Turntables:

For small items up to about 8" or 200 mm, the DLW 20 HD model is usually the best you can get - excellent value + very strong and tough.

The BEST  type of turntable is an EXHIBITION GRADE unit. It is stronger built and will stand more abuse, and is low profile making safety and stability good. These units are compact for easy handling and transport, but can easily be fitted with a larger platen for bigger loads. There are indexed fixing holes in the base and on the platen, which allows you to affix the turntable (say to a plinth) and the item to be displayed to the turntable platen. You can easily detach all this - which can be a big problem on other turntables. Professionals choose exhibition grade units for all uses wherever possible. Used properly, they invariable make more money than they cost and are resaleable - although they are rarely found second-hand.

Know your turntables
Never extend the width of a platen (or beyond its maximum if interchangeable platens apply to that model). Never turn a platen by hand. Either of these two events could damage the turntable and invalidates any guarantee.

The height of an object should not be more than its width. For tall objects, top heavy or unstable loads seek advice.

Extra Features

A rotating electrical supply is a way of allowing an electricity supply to rotate with the turntable platen without the flex getting tangled up. They are typically used for Christmas trees, lamps and other items.

Clutch drive is a safety system which provides a type of clutch allowing the platen to stop or slip if it meets resistance. It also absorbs a lot of the stresses imposed on a turntable. It is not normally mixed with a rotating electrical supply.

Special fittings and modifications - on request.
